During this 24 hour period, spotters make contact with SKYWARN radio operators at NWS offices across the nation. This annual event was originally developed in 1999 by the National Weather Service and the American Radio Relay League to celebrate the contributions that SKYWARN radio\u00a0operators\/spotters make to the National Weather Service. It also allows NWS offices to test their back up forms of communications.<\/p>\n<p>Central Carolina SKYWARN and the Raleigh National Weather Service, operating under the call sign WX4NC, will join in the fun on Friday night (November 30) from 7 -11 PM and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, making contacts on the WB4TQD 146.88 repeater, the K4ITL 147.105 repeater, the K4ITL 147.135 repeater, the Carolina 440 UHF Link System, the W4BAD Link System, IRLP, Echolink (WX3H and WX4NC), and HF (20, 40\u00a0&amp; 80 meters SSB). \u00a0To find the specific HF frequencies, look for us on <a href=\"http:\/\/dxsummit.fi\/#\/\">http:\/\/dxsummit.fi\/#\/<\/a> or ask a SKYWARN operator on the 146.880 repeater.<\/p>\n<p>Radio operators will exchange names, call signs, locations, signal reports, and a 1 or 2-word weather report.<\/p>\n<p>A special event certificate for making at least one contact with any NWS office can be found by going to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/crh\/skywarncert\">https:\/\/www.weather.gov\/crh\/skywarncert<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Hope to get you in the log!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Weather Spotters get ready!\u00a0 SKYWARN Recognition Day 2018 officially takes place Saturday, December 1, from 0000-2400 UTC.
